The artisan bees of IDEAL Society are numerous and never short of ideas to enhance the aesthetics of everyday life !
They engage in a wide variety of creative fields of work…starting with jewelry making, using semi-precious stones, pearls and glass beads to create necklaces, bracelets, earrings and pendants. All creative projects and ideas are welcome.
The Spanish ceramics studio is open to children as well as adults! Next we visit the woodwork studio. Our woodworking experts and the artists in the delicate and precise art of stained glass create their own sculptures, furniture and designs for windows and mirrors, and they accept commissions for creations according to the tastes and ideas of their customers.
Next comes painting on garments and silk, then transformed into cushion covers, lampshades and colorful scarves to wear or hang… The artists indulge in various media such as watercolors, pastels and oils to create paintings and drawings with a light contemporary touch, often incorporating calligraphic scripts.
Our tour of the hive ends with the sewing studio, where theatre sets, costumes and choir robes are created for an endless flow of musical and theatrical productions.
A selection of exquisite and useful art lovingly handcrafted by the members of the community is available at the Fernie Arts Co-Op, 572 2nd Ave., in Fernie BC.
Slavka Kolesar, one of the artists from IDEAL Society, was commissioned by the United Nations Postal Administration to design a series of 6 stamps on the theme Peaceful Visions, issued on June 1, 2007. The stamps can be viewed on Slavka’s website birdonabranch.com, and at unstamps.un.org where they are available for order until June 1st 2008 if you want your very own copy.

CERAMIC TECHNICAL ASPECTS
Every piece of pottery made with enamel at the IDEAL Society is created with the original Canadian Chemical formula.
We were able to combine traditional methods and techniques with the raw materials offered on the open market.
Because some of the products used by cultural traditions throughout history have become illegal in Canada (such as lead and its derivatives), we came up with a scale and variety of colors which are similar to those used in Southern Europe and the Near-East.
Even though we are just starting this project, we hope we can take it much further.
