At IDEAL Society we have the privilege to enjoy homegrown organic fruit and vegetables harvested from the land we live on, land we share with a cow, a herd of sheep, lamas, horses and some chickens. The fresh and delicious milk and eggs are transformed into yogurt, cheeses and countless recipes through the alchemy operated in the kitchen. Adjacent to the vegetable garden we planted a colorful patch of flowers for the nectar-gathering bees who produce 500 kilos of warm golden honey annually, and a portion of the harvest is left for the working bees to feed on during the winter months. Nature is generous!
In an effort to respect our own bodies and the food chain which we are an integral part of, we prefer to feast on seasonal fruit and vegetables and we opt for a vegetarian diet that includes fish. The seasonal surplus is sold at the local farmer’s market, and transformed into conserves, jams, juices and ciders to be enjoyed and shared during the cold season.
Each day a different team prepares savory collective meals, accompanied by a batch of fresh bread.
By actively participating in the complete cycle of nutrition, from the seed to the plate, we consciously connect ourselves to the powers of nature that create and bring to fruition the food we consume. We in turn are sustained and nourished. With the knowledge that an act is animated by its intention, a meal becomes an opportunity to engage in a communion. This is a yoga, or simply the conscious action of nutrition by which we offer thanks to the elements contained in the food that provide us with physical strength, and with the subtle energies that enable us to thrive and grow psychologically. Thus, through our gratitude, we strive to participate in the immense, universal and graceful cycle of nutrition.
