Education

Development of the Child

During the first seven years of his/her life, the presence of both parents plays a major

role in the construction of the child’s psychic balance.
During the years 7 to 14, the child develops his body of energy. In order to

influence the child, parents should be models of activity in order to help

the child to focus his/her energy constructively. From ages 14 to 21,

the teenager develops his emotions and feelings.

He/she is influenced by mythological heroes and

men and women who have devoted their

lives for their fellow human
beings.

These figures awaken in the teenager the desire to imitate them,

to surpass his limitations and direct his/her energies creatively.

The educator should be a model that the teenager can look up to, for during this important time in his life, he constructs his psychic spinal column. Images received will enter the child’s subconscious and remain there as a hidden force throughout his entire life. During the next seven year period from ages 21 to 28, the young adult broadens his/her thoughts by gaining a more collective consciousness. He/she prepares to take on responsibilities in the community and to use his/her own judgement soundly in the countless complex situations that he/she is faced with. IDEAL’s apprenticeship program encourages each individual to experiment

with the knowledge he/she has received on an intellectual level,

translating it into his/her behaviour

" My profession as an educator has given me the
opportunity, for most of my life and experience, to work with
people of all ages. As a professor, I endeavour to offer my students an education which I feel is alive, as opposed to simply passing on knowledge. Education is acquired through experience, by interacting with Nature and with our fellow human beings.

I was inspired by the ideas of the Russian philosopher and writer Tolstoi, and by the Bengali poet and artist Rabindranath Tagore, both of whom worked towards the creation of a "people’s university". To their minds, this was to be a communal residence for families, educators and children.

Parents are the first educators; together with a group of friends, I have founded IDEAL Society in order to offer students of all ages, specifically future parents, the best conditions in which they might learn through

experience, in keeping with the three-fold dimension of the human being :

thought, feelings and the will ".

Natacha Kolesar, founder of IDEAL Society.
